Other Family Law Matters
Legal matters that affect families require not only legal knowledge, but care and compassion. In addition to divorce, the family lawyer at Krispin Law represents clients in a variety of family law matters, including:
Adoptions
Adoption is a wonderful way to create or enlarge a family. Krispin Law represents individuals and couples who are seeking to adopt a child, including same-sex parents, stepparents, and other intended parents.
Annulments
An annulment is a legal declaration that a marriage never validly existed. Annulments in Massachusetts are granted only for very limited reasons, and are not the same thing as a religious annulment.
Child Custody and Support
When parents divorce, or if they have never been married, they must establish where the child will live, how each parent will spend time with the child, who will make decisions about the child’s life, and how the parents will financially support the child. The family lawyer at Krispin Law represents both divorcing parents and never-married parents in establishing child custody, parenting time, and support. In addition, we represent parents in enforcing or modifying custody, parenting time, and support orders, and in contempt proceedings for violation of those orders.
Establishment of Paternity
When a child’s parents are not married, either parent or the child may take legal action to establish the father’s legal relationship to the child. Paternity can be established voluntarily, through an Acknowledgment of Paternity, or through a court case. Establishing paternity may allow a father to seek custody and parenting time or require him to pay child support.
Name Changes and Corrections
After a divorce, adoption, or other transition, it may become necessary to change or correct a name or other data on various legal documents. Krispin Law represents clients in ensuring that vital information on birth certificates, marriage certificates, and other documents is accurate.
Prenuptial and Postnuptial Agreements
Krispin Law drafts or reviews agreements between couples regarding their financial rights and responsibilities. Prenuptial agreements can help lay a strong foundation for a marriage and simplify distribution of property in the event of a divorce or the death of one spouse.
Spousal Support and Maintenance (Alimony)
Depending on the circumstances of a divorcing couple, it may be appropriate for one spouse to pay alimony to the other for a period of time. Based on your specific situation, Krispin Law will advise you of your potential rights and obligations regarding alimony in Massachusetts and will advocate for your best financial interests.
